Money Mondays: Your Power

Aug 17, 2026
Connect

We're going off the typical format today and discussing something near and dear to my heart.

I have a theory. That women are better investors than men but everything that women are good at and that translates into the financial space they have reframed to keep us as consumers. This has created a barrier to entry into the financial world. Stay with me for 5 minutes and I'm going to give you 2 examples that prove I'm right. With the receipts. Let's go..

First we need some backstory.

Peter Lynch, he managed Fidelity's Magellan Fund from 1977 - 1990. You're asking yourself why he matters right now. Dude's a legend. And not because he achieved a 29.2% average return over his 13 year tenure, turning $18 million into $14 BILLION. But because he had a theory that's accurate. That average consumers had the edge over wall street investors. Saying that even though wall street has the worlds best tech, analysts, resources etc. YOU have an edge over those guys.

You might be saying, Nicole, how? I've never even chosen a stock to invest in before. Girlfriend, you have been doing market research your entire life. Do you buy groceries for your family? And figure out the brands that align with your values? Do you buy your family's clothes or help choose what car to buy what airline you'll fly with?

All of this you're told is shopping. That's looking it from the consumer mindset. But it's also market research. Because hearing that Warren Buffet sold 75% of his shares in Apple is one thing but trying to get an appointment at an Apple store to fix your phone or buy a new laptop is a completely different narrative.

Example 1:

Picture this. Its 2024 my family hires an Au Pair. Her name's Andie. She's fucking delightful, super fashionable and sweet. She's from Canada. She wears great active wear. I ask her, where she shops. She tells me Aritzia. I had never heard of them before. Don't judge me. I worked in tech for 10 years, not the chic tech, the tech that the dudes wear flip flops that when you see them on you physically cringe and recoil.

In my head I'm like idk who they are but are they publically traded? Andie's an advocate of them, singing their praises and shes a gen x so she must know what's going on because I clearly do not. I look up their stock. Trading at $33.

Fast forward 2 years, I go into the store for the first time. Beyond impressed by the sales associates, their training, the cleanliness (germaphobe), and the experience. I'm like shit, I want to invest in this company they're doing something really right. I look they are trading at $99. That's a 3x return. In 2 years. Still kicking myself over this.

Example 2:

Have you ever been mansplained something and you're just like questioning how the person speaking to you is somehow on paper more successful because you knew this 5+ years ago. We all have. But keeping it related, one of my client's works in VC. Total badass. She's around high profile investors, private equity and venture capital fund managers a lot.

She had a guy recently explaining to her how TJ Maxx was a great investment. He gave her a whole speech on why she should look into it. When he stopped talking she was able to tell him that yes, she knew this 10+ years ago and got in when they were trading at $8 a unit. They are now at $152 a share.

The moral of the story is this don't let anyone tell you that you can't be in the investing space. On the daily you're vetting companies and doing market research. Use that honed skill to make you money. Get in the game.

The Invested Group Coaching Program is kicking off Thursday, August 27th 9:30 - 10:30 am EST. I have 3 spaces left in this program. The full details are here. Reply here if you want more details. The spaces are filling up fast and once they're gone, they're gone.

We rise together.

Nicole
